The SMB Technology Network (SMBTN) previewed the beta edition of the SMB Technology Network Community, a social network for SMB IT providers, at SMB Nation today.  The new network will include forums, online communities, blogs, online chat, resource information and member profile information. Visitors may preview it at http://community.SMBTN.org. “While we still have some work to do, we think it is a great start,” said Jim Locke, president of SMBTN. “We hope to get a great deal of feedback from the community on the features, communities and resources that will make this a valuable tool for them.”

“I really think that the SMB Community will like what we have planned. For example, SMBTN affiliated chapters, will have the ability to post information to their own online community, host their own forums (which we plan to integrate with Twitter and LinkedIn), and be able to send weekly or monthly e-newsletters with minimal effort and at no cost to them,” he said.

The release is accompanied by the beta release of the new SMBTN Community Toolbar which is integrated with the resources found on the SMB Technology Network Community and has been updated to include new partners, tools, news feeds, podcasts, online chat, and much more.

Interested members of the SMB community may join the SMB Technology Network Community without delay by visiting http://community.smbtn.org/?xgi=7Qf8Lax by Sunday, October 4th, 2009. At that time SMBTN will begin moderating membership to ensure the privacy of its members.

New open API structure gives partners maximum flexibility when leveraging professional services automation software to better run their managed service practice

Zenith Infotech, a leading provider of backup and disaster recovery (BDR), and remote monitoring and management (RMM) solutions, today announced the integration of its SAAZ RMM tool with the leading hosted professional services automation (PSA) application from Autotask Corporation. Autotask is the first company to write to Zenith Infotech’s new open application programming interface (API), which enables broad integration with complementary third-party software applications.

Zenith SAAZ’s integration with Autotask’s IT Service Management platform gives managed service providers deeper insight into their client networks and automates their critical business processes including:

  • Asset Discovery – data imports from Zenith SAAZ directly into Autotask configuration records.
  • Contract and Invoice Management – as the number of devices monitored changes, Zenith SAAZ automatically updates this information within Autotask, ensuring more accurate agreements and billing.
  • Remote Access – a link to Zenith SAAZ from within the Autotask console enables solution providers to remotely log in to devices efficiently and conveniently.
  • True Ticket/Alert Synchronization – that allows:
    • Automatic creation of tickets/alerts initiated from Zenith SAAZ to appear in Autotask
    • Automatic creation of tickets initiated from Autotask and assigned to Zenith to appear in Zenith SAAZ
    • Updates to tickets in either system are automatically updated in the other system
    • Round-trip ticket closure
  • Help Desk Support – integration supports Zenith Infotech’s Virtual Service Desk offering

Autotask is providing this integration at no additional cost to their customers. With this integration Autotask partners will have a more detailed view of end-customer information and can automate many tasks associated with servicing their end clients.

“Our mutual customers have been asking for this integration for a long time, and we are thrilled that we can finally deliver this for them thanks to the new Zenith API,” said Autotask CEO Bob Godgart. “Autotask has become the leading PSA solution in the cloud by integrating our software with the other tools used by our customers in the IT services ecosystem. We are pleased and proud to add Zenith to our stable of integration partners.”

“Solution providers must transform their role from that of purely technology consultant to one that is more of a business technology advisor if they want to attain long-term success,” noted Zenith Infotech CEO Akash Saraf. “It’s not enough to know what systems their end users need to run their businesses – it’s easy to figure out how many servers you need to support the number of people in the company – instead they need to know how and why the technologies are used if they want to show real value. Through our new open API, we are providing the platform by which other managed service software publishers can share data and empower our mutual partners to improve their understanding of their end clients’ businesses.”

The SMB Technology Network offers both Autotask Go! and a special configuration of Autotask Pro for its members. For more information, please contact SMBTN Member Services.

SMBTN Postpones SMB Summit™ 2009 April 11, 2009

sm_jwlIt is with deep regret that I must announce that SMB Technology Network has decided to postpone its 5th Annual SMB Summit conference, due to circumstances beyond our control, including the current economic situation. The event, scheduled to be held May 14-17, 2009, at the Omni Mandalay Hotel in Irving, Texas, featured a host of excellent speakers and industry experts, leading SMB vendors, as well as, some fantastic pre-day events and certification training programs. However, circumstances left us unable to deliver the same high quality event that the community has come to expect from us during the past four years.

With this in mind, the conference committee voted unanimously Friday night to postpone the event in order to permit attendees and contributors adequate time to cancel hotel and travel arrangements. The conference committee is evaluating new dates for SMB Summit and hopes to make this information available soon. In the meantime, we will be contacting all conference registrants to begin the process of issuing refunds. We encourage any registrants with specific questions to contact SMBTN Member Services at (888) GO-SMBTN or via e-mail at MemberServices@SMBTN.org.

In closing, we wish to give special thanks to those companies that registered for the event and apologize for any inconvenience that this postponement might cause them. We would also like to extend our appreciation to the many people who invested their time and effort on SMB Summit 2009, including our attendees, speakers, community members, vendors, sponsors, and organizers. We look forward to announcing a new date for SMB Summit™ in the near future.

Best Regards,
Jim Locke, President

With this in mind, we have decided to dedicate not only our SMB Summit Conference to the topic but to make it our primary focus for the year.

Our goal is to provide your business with insights and best practices for a changing economy that permit you to continue to grow your business in 2009. We hope you will derive a great deal of value from this and would enjoy any comments that you would like to make on the topic.

I am pleased to announce a new alliance with ContractEdge for IT Professionals. I don’t know about you but I have always found contracts to be somewhat of a pain to produce and ContractEdge just seems to make it that much easier.  As part of its alliance with ContractEdge, SMBTN members can save $50 on ContractEdge Gold, a software application that helps members draft their legal documents such as consulting, non-compete, software development, hosting and other types of contracts. For a member-discount, one-time fee of $99, ContractEdge Gold provides a complete set of 20 contractual, customizable agreements. ContractEdge Gold is designed for any technology firm that provides the following services:

  • Computer consulting
  • Software and application development
  • Software licensing
  • Web site development and hosting
  • Application services
  • Network installation and maintenance
  • Other technology-related services

ContractEdge’s sophisticated interview format walks the user step-by-step through the drafting process, automatically inserting the appropriate legal clauses and project data into the document. A typical document can be completed in about 10 minutes.
